Welcome to my world! Wait, why are you running?

Comicpalooza 2015

I've had this Wix space for TWO, count them, TWO years and they have just forlornly sat on the internet, wasting away. I had this image in my mind of the PERFECT site, and I couldn't translate that into a website on my own. I wanted to do it myself, but until it looked perfect, I didn't want to go any farther. That's a problem for me in my writing, too, sometimes. Perfectionism stalls progress. I frequently receive reminders from my muse, the universe, and sometimes old episodes of Community that the better option is getting your creative work done as well as you can, and then releasing it. You can always edit it later, or just let it be as it is, and move forward, knowing better for next time. I am trying to take this to heart. I still struggle.

A few months ago, a friend approached me to do some writing for a club she leads, Geek Girl Brunch Houston. I agreed, and have been learning how to use their WordPress site. It's pretty easy, though to be fair, the national HQ team probably set it up to be so. Once I completed the origin stories of our heroines, and an update on our first event, I thought to myself, "You know what, self?"

"No? Huh?"

"You're going to start and finish that Wix site. It can't be harder than WordPress."

"OK, whatever."

So I sat down with an orange vanilla Coke Zero Sugar, started to work on the Wix site, and it was harder than WordPress. A lot harder. Though, like anything else, it got easier as I learned and kept going.

It's not perfect, but it's out there on the World Wide Web. I got it done, and I have learned a lot for whatever comes next. I am sure I will still engage in epic battles against perfectionism in my writing and on this site, but this is one skirmish I won.

Welcome, and I hope you come along with me on my writing journey.
